KOTA: The Urban Improvement Trust (UIT) has three new projects lined up for this year which are expected to be built at a cost of Rs 240 crores. With the implementation of these three projects, UIT aims to improve connectivity, create traffic diversions and reduce both accidents and congestion on the roads in Kota.
The three projects include - a high-level bridge parallel to Kota Barrage planned at Rs 85 crore, ROB at Rangpura at Rs 55 crore and northern bypass phase II on mega highway (state highway 33) to Ballop on NH-12 (new NH-52) at a cost of Rs 100 crore.
UIT is planning a high-level bridge parallel to Kota barrage at a cost of Rs 85 crore.
"The irrigation department had raised the requirement for an alternative to Kota Barrage service road. This road is now 60 years old and cannot bear the traffic load or PCU (passenger car unit) above 600 per day," said Mohan Lal Yadav, secretary, UIT.
"Another issue was that Kota Barrage is a service road, not a common route. It was constructed at a time when the only requirement was going to Kota Barrage, but now the traffic has increased due to urbanisation (to Saketpura and Komadi), and it has become a regular route," he said.
Yadav further said, "this will be a two-lane (carriage width is 7 metres) bridge and 500 metres long, running from Sai Baba temple to Thermal Chauraha over the river. We also have 1.5 metre wide footpaths on the either side. Shah Associates, Ahmedabad, is the consultant for preparing the DPR (detailed project report)".
"We will float the tender within a week and the completion period is two years from the date of commencement (work order), so according to schedule it should be ready by January 2018. We have also made the provision of a (water and gas) pipeline on the outer side of the bridge," said Yadav. Land acquisition is going on simultaneously from private owners, irrigation department, thermal power station and by removal of encroachments.
"Another new project is railway over bridge (ROB) at Rangpur Road to be built at a cost Rs 55 crore. This will take time as the DPR is under process. The GAD (General arrangement drawing) will also have to be cleared by the railway," said Mohan Lal Yadav.
He added, "this is being planned as a two-lane road with footpaths. We need three to four months for bringing out the tender and acquiring land of farmers".
"The third project is northern bypass phase II on mega highway (state highway 33) to Ballop on NH-12 (new NH-52). This will be built at a cost of Rs 100 crore. This is part of ring road of Kota city. The DPR is under process," he said.
